Lim Chang-yong was first indicted on charges of borrowing about 80 million won from victim A in Manila, Philippines, in December 2019 and not paying it back. Later, the prosecution changed the indictment on charges of borrowing 150 million won and repaying only 70 million won before the final trial.
The prosecution said, "The defendant is not reflecting on his crime by reversing his statement during the investigation and trial," adding, "The victim is also pleading for severe punishment."
Lim Chang-yong's lawyer said, "There is no credibility in the victim's statement, such as not being able to remember whether the money and valuables handed over by the victim were gambling chips, cash, Hanwha, or Philippine pesos," and pleaded not guilty, saying, "There is no fact that I borrowed money by deceiving the purpose of gambling or my intention to pay it back, and I paid back all the estimated 70 million won in gambling chips I borrowed, so I am not guilty of fraud." The sentencing hearing for Lim Chang-yong will be held on March 27.
